About the event
About the event
FAP Intensives are annual gatherings for trainers, students, trainees, and established therapists either hoping to learn FAP, reacquaint themselves with the research and model, or simply to immerse in the co-created and sacred space of the FAP family.
The theme of this Intensive is “COMING HOME”
Coming back to the basics of applying the foundational rigour of functional analysis to instil deep understanding and compassion for yourself and your clients. We will help each other explore and expand our potential, come home to our Being in coexistence with the World. Let us create an intellectually vibrant and heartfelt community of FAPPISTAS we want to come home to. Let us radiate this impact to our clients to create a world we all want to belong to, and experience belonging in.
What is FAP?
FAP is a process-based therapeutic approach grounded in moment-to-moment functional analysis of the client-therapist relationship. FAP builds a functional analytic formulation that incorporates the rules of prediction and influence that lie at the core of FAP, which can supercharge any other protocol based treatments. This approach is both technically precise and full-hearted as it applies the therapeutic relationship as the natural reinforcement for client change.
What is a FAP Intensive?
This is a two and half day skills packed training in a process-based therapeutic approach. You will:
- Improve your FAP case-conceptualisation skills.
- Learn to augment the therapeutic relationship - and you, the therapist - as a natural reinforcer to shape behavioural change. We will show you how to notice and decode the function of verbal and nonverbal interactions, and which behaviours to reinforce to get the therapeutic outcomes your clients need.
- For more advanced FAP clinicians, we will provide specialist training focusing on evoking and transforming emotional experiences for the client; working with diverse populations; using stories and metaphors; and how to conduct supervision FAP style!
- You will feel first-hand what a client will experience when they receive FAP. We call it “INTENSIVE” because it is designed to stretch your emotional and behavioural repertoire so you can become the most agile and adaptive therapist, with the ability to choose the most therapeutic response with your client in the moment!

We have selected Budapest as a central location in Europe that is affordable to stay in and to travel to from much of the world. It is a site of rich history, Europe's largest synagogue, a number of UNESCO heritage sites, a thriving LGBTQ community, and vibrant art and music scenes. This is an essential workshop for those working towards therapist and trainer certification as it contributes towards the training criteria. More experienced FAPpers can volunteer to be a pod leader to assist with the workshop.
Included in the ticket are optional social events (first come-first serve for events with limited numbers), though this is also a beautiful city full of parks, dancing, and open spaces where you can stretch your comfort zone to try out novel behaviours (CRB2s!) with friends, new or old. There will be options for both meditative walks along the river and the beautiful central island, or tastes of the nightlife (e.g., karaoke, dancing, etc.), and of course the traditional FAPpy hour where we bond over connection enriching questions!
We're excited about this opportunity to come together again as a community in a new way, and to create a memorable encounter.
Certificate of attendance will be issued.

** Informed consent/disclaimer:**
FAP intensives are highly experiential and personal events, even more so than typical ACT experiential workshops. At the Intensive, you will be encouraged to share details of your history, important life events, experiences of shame and vulnerability, and similar topics, in small groups. We believe this format of the Intensive creates a powerful and meaningful learning experience, but it also can be uncomfortable and evocative. If you have any concerns about this, please contact us before registering.
Commercial support Disclosure:
The Budapest FAP Intensive is organised by the Power to Live Foundation, a UK-based mental health charity dedicated to the dissemination of behavioural training and the provision of accessible behavioural therapy services to economically disadvantaged communities. The Power to Live does not provide any financial sponsorship to the event. 50% of any surplus made on the event will be donated to this charity.
